They Don’t Know About Us
Chapter 11

I woke up and Zayn was playing with my hair.
“Morning love,” he said groggily.
I smiled and kissed him lightly on his cheek. “What time is it?”
“Noon,” he smiled. “Babe,” he continued. “Don’t you think you should move all your stuff here?”
“Yeah, but then my parents are going to ask me where I’m moving to.” I replied, already having thought of it myself.
“Just tell them you’re getting an apartment or something,” he smiled, still twisting my hair. “I want you to feel at home here and with only a quarter of your things, I doubt you do.”
I kissed him again and said, “You’re right. I’m gonna go get my things today.”
“Good,” he smiled.
I got up and threw on a shirt and shorts. I slipped into some sneakers and turned to Zayn who was still in bed. “I’ll be back soon,”
“Hurry,” he smiled. “The boys and I’ve got an interview at 8 tonight.”
“Okay,” I smiled, making my way towards the door.
“Wait,” He jumped up and pulled me really close. “I love you,” he nearly whispered.
I looked up into his eyes, smiling. “Love you too,”
He kissed me and I was on my way.
I felt unstoppable, like when I was going to tell my parents about me and Zayn. I’m not sure why, but I had a really good feeling.
I pulled into my parents’ driveway and walked right into the house.
“Mom! Dad!” I yelled.
My mom walked out of the kitchen and smiled. “Sam! What a nice surprise.”
She hugged me and then my dad came out. “Hi sweetie,” he said, hugging me too.
The oven beeped and my mom said, “Gotta go put the cookies in,” She retreated back into the kitchen.
“So what’s up?” my dad asked.
“Just here to get my things.” I said, dreading what I’d have to say next. “I’m moving out dad.”
He nodded. “We saw that coming soon. Just make sure you visit.”
“Of course,” I smiled.
He hugged me again and joined mom my back in the kitchen.
I went upstairs and looked around my bedroom. I had left it a mess and it didn’t appear that either of my parents had stepped foot in here while I was gone. I started picking things up and putting them in tote and duffle bags, which I had many of. This was going to take way longer than I expected.
 
*6 hours later*
I looked around and smiled to myself. Everything was packed neatly and I’d be able to go home soon.
My mom walked in and said, “Sam, we need to talk.”
I furrowed my eyebrows. Why’d she sound so serious? “Okay…” I said, sitting on my bed.
She sat next to me and said, “How are things with Ben?”
Honestly wasn’t expecting that. “Um, good. Really good.” I smiled. “Why?”
“I just got off the phone with Andria…”
“Oh?”
“Ben’s engaged, Sam.”
Oh my gosh! “To Jen?” I asked without thinking.
She nodded and asked, “Why’d you lie?”
“Mom, Ben was really nice but he was in love with Jen. We needed to get our moms off each other’s backs for a little while, so we pretended to be dating.”
“You needed me off your back?” she said, kind loud.
“Yeah, I couldn’t take very much more of ‘Is there something going on with you and Zayn?’ You and dad were driving me crazy.”
“/Is/ there something going on between you and Zayn?” she asked.
It’s like she was actually trying to annoy me, but she was being dead serious.
And I don’t know what made me do it; maybe it was the way she flat-out asked or maybe the stress from hiding finally got to me, but I told her.
“Actually mom, there is.”
Her eyes widened and then the weirdest thing happened; she started laughing. “Okay,” she said. “I deserved that. I shouldn’t have asked again. Sorry,”
“Mom,” I looked her dead in the eye and said, “I’m being serious. Zayn and I have been dating for about a month now. I’ve been living with him and we’ve kept it a total secret from everyone.”
She widened her eyes once again and started screaming. “How /dare/ you?!”
I rolled my eyes and said, “Mom! It’s my freakin’ life! You and dad have got to get that through your head!”
“No! We’re trying to protect you and you’re just being impossible!”
“Well you know mom, I love Zayn. And I don’t give a shit what you or anyone else thinks of our relationship.” I grabbed four bags off the floor and walked out. “I’ll be back tomorrow for the rest!” I yelled and walked out the front door. I threw the bags in the back of the car and drove home.
Even though mom was pissed and dad would be soon, I found myself smiling and breathing a lot easier. Everyone could know now. We could scream it to the world. I smiled wider and pulled into the driveway.
 
When I walked in, Zayn was coming down from upstairs. He was all ready for the interview and he looked quite handsome. He smiled, “Hi baby,”
I dropped my bags and ran up to him. We hugged and I pulled back and kissed him passionately.
“What was that for?” he smiled.
“Zayn,” I started.
“What’s wrong, babe?” he rubbed my arm and looked into my eyes.
I smiled wide and said, “I told them.”
“Told them wh – “ he stopped and smiled wide too. “You did?!”
I nodded and he kissed me again.
“How’d they take it?” he asked.
I smiled and said, “Not well, but I don’t care.”
“Are you sure you’re okay?” he asked, moving a piece of hair behind my ear and looking into my eyes.
“Never been better,” I smiled.
“Good,” he picked up my bags and started walking upstairs again. “C’mon,”
“Where are we going?”
“Well I figured you’d want to change.”
“For what?”
“I want you to be there when I announce our relationship.”
We walked into our bedroom and he smiled.
“Tonight?” I asked.
“Yeah, we’re going on Alan Carr. It’s the perfect time. Harry’s announcing the news about him and Franny so you two can sit together.”
“Perfect,” I smiled. He left me to change. I quickly straightened my hair and put on makeup. I slipped on a cute dress and flats and was finally ready.
I walked back downstairs and Zayn was in the kitchen looking in the fridge. He turned around when I walked in and said, “You looked beautiful, babe.”
“You don’t look too shabby yourself.” I winked.
I heard the front door open and he said, “That’s just the boys. Oh,” He smiled. “They know…I just called them.”
I smiled and before I could say anything they ran into the kitchen and burst into hugs and ‘congratulations’.
Franny followed them in and looked at me. To my relief, she smiled and ran over to me. I hugged her and she said, “This is so great!”
“Fran, I’m so sorry it’s just – “
“Sam,” she smiled. “Don’t even think about apologizing. Zayn explained everything.”
“Thank you Franny,” I smiled.
Liam looked at his watch and said, “We’ve gotta get going.”
We all walked out and got into a van that was being driven by Paul.
“Congrats,” he smiled as Zayn and I got in.
“Thanks,” we both smiled.
When we finally got to the studio where the Alan Carr show was made, it was surrounded by screaming fans. Zayn took my hand as Paul opened one of the car doors. “This is what we’ve been waiting for,” he whispered. I nodded but couldn’t get anything out because it just dawned on that I was going to be known by teenage girls everywhere. And not only known, but hated by some. Zayn started leading me out of the van and I knew there was no going back.
My parents knew.
All of the boys knew.
Paul knew.
Franny knew.
For Pete’s sake, Ed Sheeran knew.
And now the whole world was going to know and that honestly scared me. I know how these fangirls can be. The jealousy can overtake them.
Sometimes they even send death threats. I had no idea how I’d handle that. Not well, I know that for sure.
Everything seemed to be in slow motion as Liam, Louis, and Niall got out and the screaming got about 10x louder.
Harry took Franny’s hand and they hopped out. They had already been out on dates before but they weren’t official to the fans yet. They were waiting for Harry to confirm it, which he was doing tonight.
Me and Zayn….they hadn’t even seen me before except in the ‘mystery blonde’ article and they didn’t know that me.
Zayn was now in front of the opened door. The screaming girls exploded into another round of hysterics and I saw three girls in the front crying. No one could see me yet, as I was behind him, but as soon as he stepped out onto the ground I was in open view for everyone to see.
I looked ahead to see how Franny was holding up. She was already walking into the building with Harry, Liam, Louis, and Niall.
“C’mon babe,” Zayn smiled. “They don’t bite,”
I wasn’t so sure about that.
The three girls who had been crying now just looked mad and I swear one growled at me.
But, I didn’t really have a choice. I stepped out onto to the ground with Zayn and we walked through the small path some security guards made with tape.
We quickly made it to the door and I realized that this was the easy part. Once Zayn announced our relationship, my whole life would change.
“Sam?” Zayn asked.
I snapped out of my deep thought and smiled. “Yeah, babe?”
“I gotta go get ready, but you and Franny have seats in the front. Okay?”
“Okay.” I kissed his cheek. “Have fun,”
He nodded and walked to the back with the boys.
“So,” Franny said. “Tell me all about you and Zayn.”
“Let’s go find our seats first, Fran.” I said. There were a lot of people standing around and I didn’t really want them to know all about my and Zayn’s love life. Besides, I needed to sit down. I felt a little dizzy.
We walked through a door that brought us onto the Alan Carr stage. It was really crowded so we made our way straight down to the front. We sat down and Franny said, “This is so exciting!”
I nodded but then asked, “Aren’t you worried?”
“About?”
“The fans…how they’re going to react…”
“Not really, I mean, I was talking to Eleanor and she said the fans were really supportive of her and Louis.”
“Yeah but that’s different. El and Louis are seen as the perfect couple. What if the fans don’t view you and Harry, or me and Zayn, like that? What if they hate us?”
“Stop worrying Sam,” she smiled, “Just enjoy this moment.”
I sighed and looked at the stage where I had watched hundreds of interviews take place. Josh loved this show and never missed an episode…
Oh my gosh, Josh. I had completely forgotten. He didn’t know yet…
Suddenly a woman with a microphone headset on walked onto the stage and yelled “Thirty seconds, people!”
Franny nudged me and smiled. “Did you hear that?”
“Uh-huh,” I smiled. I suddenly felt worse.
Too late though. The show had already started. Alan was talking and what he was saying must have been funny because everyone around me was laughing hysterically. I couldn’t focus though. I felt really dizzy but I knew I had to snap out of it before the interview. Franny had a bottle of water so I pointed to it and asked, “Can I have some?”
“Sure,” she handed me the bottle and I took a sip and felt a little better.
“One Direction!” Alan exclaimed. I had missed his funny lead in, but it didn’t matter. As long as I was okay now.
The boys walked down the stairs, as everyone clapped. Harry, then Niall, Liam, Louis, and finally Zayn. He winked at me and I smiled widely back. I was feeling a little better.
They sat on the couch and Alan offered them drinks…you know the drill. He asked them about their new album and how it was being home again. And finally, the relationship question.
“Okay,” Alan started. “Who of you five are taken?”
“Well,” Liam smiled. “Louis and I are still with our girlfriends.” Louis smiled and nodded in agreement.
“That’s good,” Alan replied. “And the rest of you?”
“I’m actually in a new relationship.” Harry smiled.
“Really?” Alan asked happily. “Tell us about her.”
“Her name’s Franny.”
“That’s a lovely name.” Alan said.
“Yeah,” Harry smiled. “We’ve known each other for a while and we just get on really well.”
“Well that’s nice.” Alan said. “And Niall, you’re still single?”
Niall nodded. “Haven’t found the right girl yet,”
“That’s admirable really, that you’re waiting for someone special. Good for you.” Alan replied.
Niall smiled and his cheeks got a little red because people started clapping.
“And,” Alan continued. “Finally Zayn. I wanted to ask you about this mystery blonde.” A picture came up on the screen of that night when Zayn and I had left the party and were holding hands.
Zayn smiled and I could tell he was relieved he didn’t have to lie. “That’s my new girlfriend, Sam.”
“Oh and how’d you two meet?”
“She’s the sister of our drummer.”
“Is she watching right now?”
“She’s actually sitting right over there.” He pointed and waved and I smiled back. The dizziness was definitely coming back.
“So is Franny,” Harry waved too.
“Oh, let’s get a shot of them.” Alan said to the camera men.
I was thinking ‘NO!’ but the words wouldn’t come out.
“Smile Sam,” Franny giggled.
The dizziness took over and everything around me was completely blurry. All I could see was blobs of different colors.
“Sam?” I heard Franny but she sounded so far away. “Sam! Oh my God!”
“SAM!” It was Zayn now.
But then everything went black.
The last thing I remember was hearing his voice.
